Fama Picks up Four Nominations at 2020 Northern Virginia Film Festival

FAIRFAX, VA- Joey Fama’s latest two screenplays, “The Life of a Dentist” and “Lists of Otters,” were recognized in the sixth annual Northern Virginia International Film and Music festival (NOVA). Both screenplays were nominated for: Best Comedy Screenplay Under 20 pages, while “The Life of a Dentist,” received a nod for: Best Teleplay: 30 Minutes. Lists of Otters is among nine other nominees in one of the toughest categories to win, Best Drama Under 20 pages.

Fama has enjoyed previous success at NOVA, receiving a nominations in all six years of the festival. Last year, he and Michael Perry’s screenplay, “A New Sound,” won Best Teleplay Under 30 Minutes. The win was an important milestone for Fama. The win was the 9th for Fama at NOVA, making Fama one of the most decorated writers in NOVA’s history. The win also solidified Fama and Perry as a formattable filmmaking team. In 2018 their previous film, “The Carnival Kid,“ won one of NOVA’s most distinguished award’s: the NOVA Jury Award and has gone on to play at film festivals across the country.

In its six year history the Northern Virginia International Film and Music Festival has become a beloved festival among not only locals in the DC area but also filmmakers from around the world. The festival has even been named to Film Freeway’s prestigious, “Top 100 Best Reviewed Festivals.” It has continued to evolve and grow since its inception in 2014. The festival now includes the popular, “Capital Film Market.” The Capital Film Market brings top sales agents both domestic and international, film offices and film buyer from all over the world to Fairfax. Giving filmmakers and writers a chance to reach viewers from all other the globe, through different streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and iTunes. The festival was originally scheduled for April. However, due to COVID-19 and safety concerns, the festival has been tentatively rescheduled for November 2020. Executive Director of the festival Fernando Mico spoke on this saying, “We are going to have the same great festival, with the same great films, great writers, and same great venues. This year it just happens to be in November instead of April.”
